No PCI-E 3.0?

I bought the 980Ti on launch and a couple of games still seemed to stutter somewhat at the time so I remember going into the Bios and looking through the settings. If I recall correctly the setting for PCI-E speed was on auto and I am 99% sure there was a gen3 option to ensure the graphics card runs at 3.0x speed.

My motherboard is the VII Hero by the way, and the card is seated in the top most slot (red).

Today I just put a new H110i GT liquid cooler and 4 new sticks of 4x2GB Avexir 2400Mhz Red LED ram in. Removed the battery, pressed the clear cmos button and even moved the little jumper switch to make sure the bios was reset, then booted and loaded optimized defaults whilst also setting the overclock tuner to XMP.

Anyway, unless I am losing my marbles there is no longer any option in the bios for gen3 (3.0x speed), only Auto, Gen1 and Gen2 (2.0x speed). I have left it on Auto and GPU-Z says that the Bus interface is "PCI-E 3.0 x 16 1.1" I tried running it's test but it just seemed to go on forever so I cancelled it.

Is there anyway of knowing for sure if my graphics card is running at 3.0 16x speed? Im sure there was an option in my bios for gen3 3.0x but now I don't know if I am going barmy or what! :p

Im going to find my motherboard manual out right now...

Ok just found in the motherboard book and the option is missing, the available options are:

PCIEx16_1/2 Link Speed
[Auto] The system will automatically select the PCI-E x16 port speed.
[Gen1] The PCI-EX16 port will run at PCI-E 1.0 speed.
[Gen2] The PCI-EX16 port will run at PCI-E 2.0 speed.
[Gen3] The PCI-EX16 port will run at PCI-E 3.0 speed.
Since installing the H110i GT and Avexir memory I no longer seem to have the Gen3 option

Just flashed a new bios and still no change, but dammit I nearly borked the motherboard :o

After flashing a bios on these motherboards, it restarts as usual and the screen showing to press del or f1 to enter the bios shows followed shortly by a black screen with white writing showing text progress about updating iRog1 or something. Usually I wait and let it load into Windows before rebooting and then entering the bios, this time however I pressed del to enter the bios and looks like I entered too soon because the iRog1 and iRog2 update screen never arrived.

Seems ok at the moment, but dammit the bios is missing the option to run at 3.0x, very confusing indeed

Ok problem solved.

Turns out the setting that determines whether to use integrated or dedicated graphics was on auto, and for some reason prevented the gen3 option from appearing.

I can now confirm though that without even changing anything it is running at the 3.0x speed in Windows.

To get the gen3 option to show I had to change the above setting from auto to pci-e.

It was a bit of a mystery but there you go :p
