Hi all i've upgraded my graphics card from a gtx 980 to a MSI Ventus rtx 2080 but I'm not getting a boot and it hangs on B2 it boots with the 980 installed.

My current hardware is

Asus Maximus vi formula
intel core i7-4770k
Corsair vengeance (speed unknown as I'm currently away and can't remember it)
Evga supernova 750 psu

I'm not sure if this is a bios issue as the last update for my mobo was 2014 or its a dud card or older hardware.

When I boot the monitor responds but has no image and it hangs on b2 and the vga led lights up red

Any help would be amazing

Kind regards

Chris

Welcome aboard.

First make sure all cables are firmly connected.
You might have nudged some cable while changing graphics card.

That CPU has integrated GPU, so try if you can get it to boot with that.
Assuming monitor has DisplayPort or HDMI.

Try clearing CMOS.
Age is such that also BIOS battery (CR2032) could be almost dead.

And removing drives and all but one DIMM for minimum parts and trying to get into BIOS would be thing to try if nothing else has helped.

You can try graphics card in any slot it will physically fit.

Though all mechanically/physically x16 length slots share same PCIe lanes coming from CPU, so problem in those could cause also other slots to not work.
Except if fault is in first eight lanes of primary slot.
Those are dedicated with certainty only for it, with electrical configuration of slots being x16 or dual x8 or x8/x4/x4

Ok so i've fixed the issue but the whole thing has left me looking at my pc and wanting more, so I decided to upgrade the whole lot haha
For CPU and motherboard you better wait for release of Zen2 Ryzens and major improvement in bang per buck.
8 cores/16 threads might become mainstream.

Ahh I've already gone for the Intel system which consists of

Asus ROG Maximus XI Formula Intel Z390
Intel Core i9-9900K 3.6GHz (Coffee Lake)
Corsair Dominator Platinum RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4
MSI Ventus RTX 2080
EVGA GTX 980 (Physics card)

Looking to build it tomorrow I can't wait haha it's been about 4-5 years since I last updated the whole PC
