Hi all,

I7 920
Asrock x58 deluxe
akasa nero
6gb ram
ocz gamexstream 850w
ati 4890 1gb
ocz sata2 SSD

Well i`ll be borked if i can get this damned thing to Post. Have connected an internal speaker but there are no beeps whatsoever.
The psu spins up, the processor cooler spins up, the ps2 keyboard lights up very briefly.
Have tried 3 different gfx cards but nothing.
The board has been RMAed twice (once with all the components as well, but returned as NFF, although they have replaced the processor (!). They say they have flashed the BIOS as well....
HAve tried holding down f2, f11 etc to get into bios but nothing happens just a blank screen.

Either i`m being a muppet of the highest magnitude and have missed a connection somewhere, or i`m missing something in translation or the RMA testers are lying.....

Any ideas greatly appreciated

Are all power connections connected including the 8 pin for cpu power.
Try each memory stick individualy and double check which slots are needed to use.

yep; using the 20+4 power connector and the 2x 4 connectors.--both sets of connectors can only go in one way (i hope!! :D )

also have followed the ordering sequence of RAM as per big sticker on wrapper giving the required order. Have also done the individual stick procedure though and tried all slots.

have also cleared cmos, jumper and battery btw.

I`m just a little dubious, call me a life long cynic, about the truthfulness of the RMA testers. Surely they're not going be sending stuff back as "working" in the hope i`ll disappear....?

This is the first i7 build i`ve tackled, but i`ve built other machines before no problems.

I¬m tempted to order a UD3, as their are no other similar machines in the office to test the components unfortunately!

What else could it be?

You really need to contact the dealership and tell them you cannot get it to boot, you may even be able to speak with the tester directly. I have never had an occasion to doubt that any RMA's I've done, and I've done plenty, have not been thoroughly tested. My new DFi board was RMA'd when it refused to boot, similar circumstances as yours, LEDs lit on mobo, fans spin-up, but no warning beeps and no boot. It was tested and returned to me with "no fault found", the tester even sent me a jpg image of my mobo on a test rig running windows desktop. In my case it was a memory issue and easy to fix. Get back to the dealers and ask for help, I know how you feel, been there!

*you didn't say if you were building outside the case, if not try a barebones build outside the case to eliminate any shorting issues, good luck!

Funnily enough i sent back all the components, processor, ram, mb, psu and guess what? Yep, all tested together and NFF.
They said they tested them together and in isolation, but then raised an RMA for a faulty processor....
So now i`ve had 3, all from different batches.

So in the interim, i`ve ordered an Asus board from OCuk and fired off an email to Asrock, who actually got back to me within 1.5hrs from the Netherlands....

Update this afternoon.

Well for the life of us we couldn't get it to post, so in a hissy fit i ordered an Asus P6t from OCuk.
Used all the same components from previous motherboard, and you guessed it, worked first time. We booted, rebooted etc multiple times and no problems!

We had a small issue with Windows7 first seeing the OCZ ssd, then dropping it again during install, but a quick fanny about with ahci-ide-ahci, driver updates, hail mary's etc soon got it working again.

Now get a 5.9 windows score and haven't touched any overclocking.

Giving them credit Asrock responded to my emails extremely quickly, but after the usual questions they wanted the unit RMA back to the Netherlands, which quite frankly i couldn't be bothered to do. They did recommend i got DDR3 with 1.5v, as opposed to the 1.65v i had in there, but to be perfectly frank why the hell should i have to do that?

Nowhere, on the box specs, online, in the docs or on any forum does it specify that RAM needs to be of that voltage, so to my beligerent mind if that is the cause of the problem they owe me time and money!!
IF that is such a crucial (forgive the pun) part of the problem, they should be more careful in their requirement specs....surely?

Anyway, back goes the mb to whence it came for a full refund--i`d better flipping get one too---and i now have a working system. So much for RMA testing...

Think i`ll save the hair loss, gnashing of teeth and sulking and buy a pre-build next time

Damn, that sounds like a total nightmare!!!

At least you now have a working system.. I find it really strange how everything worked when you RMA'd it, but you can't get it working yourself...

Surely you will get a full refund because of this though..
