Hey all...

My machine died with a blue screen earlier this morning. Fair enough I thought, rebooted and all was fine; for about 5 mins till it did it again. Now it won't post, there are no beeps, and nothing is displayed onscreen. I am completely stumped...

I have tried taking ram out, video card out, the like, yet get exactly the same responce, no beeps, no post, just a blank screen and the fans and hdd running. The system trys to access the CD drive.

I've tried to clear the CMOS but I'm not sure if I've done it right. I held a screwdriver over the two pins for 30 secs but it made no difference.

One time I got BIOS recovery come up and scan the hdd then the computer shut down, which leads me to believe it is a random BIOS corruption.

The system was not overclocked and has been running on stock settings.

Specs are below

Core 2 Duo E4300
2GB Giel Value DDR2 6400
Gigabyte 965P DS3 Rev 1
X1950 Pro 256mb
Corsair HX520 PSU

Any one help? Completely stumped. Any way to do a bios flash without a functioning BIOS? I haven't been able to get that screen with BIOS restore back up yet.

Cheers

You have a speaker attached to the board as I don't think the DS3 has one onboard.

Just tested one stick at a time, in one slot, then in another. Still nothing.

No sticks gives exactly the same result

DS3 does have onboard, when my graphics card died I got clear beeps, I also got them whenever the board posted.

I'm thinking it's either mobo or CPU, leaning towards mobo as I got that BIOS recovery thing "BootBlock" once, but never again. How long do gigabyte RMAs take?

You sure it has an onboard speaker? From memory it doesn't and I've just checked the images on the Gigabyte site and didn't see a speaker on the 1.1, 2.0 or 3.3 boards. The DS3 P35 doesn't have one either.

Bootblock messages suggest a borked BIOS.

Well what is making the noise every time it posts, and what gave me the beeping error code when my graphics card died?

I'm fairly certain mine would beep if there was something wrong, seeing as it has before now.

Have taken the CMOS battery out, am going to head into the city with some friends, have some fun and come back later to see if it's done anything.

It always happens at christmas time. It does seem like the motherboard. If you are sending it back to where you bought it from, I'm sure it will take longer than normal to get a replacement, due to the time of year.

Then it is most definitely connected. As I get beeps from it all the time at POST.

Right, will contact OC.

Then, it's got to be the m/b, it's very rare indeed a cpu goes. I hope you get it sorted very quickly.

Yeah. Will chuck CMOS battery back in when this evening, after that will ontact OC and try and get things sorted.

Thanks for the help though, it's good to know I didn't miss something blindingly obvious!

CMOS battery back in, nothing.

CPU reseated, nothing. Looks like a dead mobo to me. :( Contacting OC now, although I fear I might be chucked over to gigbyte and a looong RMA
