****fixed reset switch on case
Just got a bunch of new parts for a build for somebody, here's the specs:
-Intel core i3 530
-Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3
-4GB patriot sector 5
-Artic cooler freezer 7 pro rev2 with MX2 TIM
-Corsair VX 550w
-XFX ATi 5770 XXX
-2x Samsung dvd drives
-2x WD caviar blue 500GB
I think the motherboard is the cause of the problem and might be faulty
So I finished building, plugged in, had a bad feeling something would go wrong and it did! Pushed the on button and the fans spinned up as well as normal lights (mobo phase lights) flickered on and hard/optical drives, however this was for about 3 seconds, no display image, no beeps and it just stopped, then after 5 seconds it would try again and do the same process. I have to disconnect from the mains or use the PSU switch at the back, otherwise it will just keep looping.
What I've tried
-All fans work
PSU:
-Leave for a while and try again
-Replug and check over all power cables
-Power is getting to the parts because the fans spin up etc
-Try at different mains
-Try with no surge protector
CPU:
-Check contact between motherboard pins
-Checked underside of cpu
-Reseatted heatsink
Mobo:
-Make sure socket pins for cpu are not bent/damaged or missing
-Check all power and data cables are connected
-Take out CMOS battery
-Checked for physical damage
RAM:
-Used a single stick
-Tried in 2 and 4 slots
GPU:
-Replaced with a 4850, no change
-Used no dedi gpu, no change
HDD's and optical drivers aren't required to POST and get to the BIOS screen, so can't be the problem and they do spin up. The only other thing I could try is some different RAM and a different PSU, it could potentially be the CPU but surely the motherboard would have given me warning beeps/lights etc for these? I have used google and found a couple of similar cases (not exact but near enough) and the problem has been the mobo
Any suggestions would be most helpful, this is my last hope, I want to make sure it is definitely the motherboard before returning
Cheers guys
