I have recently moved to a bigger case and its turning out to be a nightmare. First I put too much paste on my CPU and now the computer wont power up at all.

I think that its a connection problem as I can eventually get it working but all the components are hanging out. As soon as I begin to slide the board back in I lose all power.

Which connector would stop any power getting to the computer? It must be when I push it in it catches something or shorts something.

Looking for your advice on what it might be

Thanks

2 main connectors power your motherboard, both clip in. Check that they go 'click' when they clip in. Other posibility is it could be a short.

They do go in and when I start up it works ok after a while. But when I move the computer to push the components back in it loses power again. Do you think something is pulling out when I move or what could be shorting it?

Works fine if I leave it all hanging out

Firstly, what are you moving when it turns off?

If its the PSU, wiggle all the connections coming from it individually to help you find out if you have a loose connection somewhere. This includes the mains lead!

If its the motherboard check you've got it raised from the back tray properly and that its only touching against the hexagonal raising screws where the metal rimmed screw holes are on the board, anything else could be shorting something out.

If its neither of those two then take a look at the front pannel connections and check that these are wired up correctly.

Hope that helps,

PK!

Thanks. I have a coolermaster stacker 832 and when I slide the mb tray back in it cuts off the power. It could be something to do with the back board as all the wires seem secure in there plugs.

The last thing I wanted to do though was take it all apart again as I have all the wires nicely organised. But looks like thats what i am going to have to do.

I would have thought that the front panel wires were ok as this boots up ok when I have it all hanging out. Which if it were not connected, it wouldnt, i would have thought.

Thanks Misterpk you were spot on. I had an extra divider on the motherboard that was not in use by a screw and when I put the graphics card in i think it was touching it. All works fine. Really appreciate your advice. Thanks again!
