no power, how to test?

is there anyway to test what is broken, no power even after changing fuses.
I assume it is psu or mobo. No lights on mobo nothing completely dead. I do have a volt meter, unfortunately I don't have spare psu or mobo. So is there some way I can determine which one it is?

Disconnect all of the internal connectors from the PSU. Then jump start the PSU by bridging the contacts in main ATX plug. A quick Google will tell you which two contacts need bridging.

As above - used to be known as the paper clip test - clicky

I've always used a bit of old insulated wire with ends stripped off, rather than a paper clip.

Thanks that worked, turns out somehow the mono connector is lose, so I tapped it on. Not sure how the connector becomes like that seeing as its in a case and cables aren't pulled or anything.
But yay working again which is the main thing.

Glad it proved an easy fix - had the potential to be a PITA from initial description.

As to wires coming loose - you don't happen to have a wife/GF/kids that randomly kick your rig while swinging in your office/den chair? That's the only conclusion i can come up with when i find the occasional dislodged wire. Well, that's who i blame anyway

nope, but it hasn't just been nocked, it wont actually stay properly in, hence the tape. Its like the plastic has shrunk or something, no physical signs of damage, oh well. as long as it works.
