So I wake up this morning went to turn pc on and nothing..normally I can see the glow of the psu led but nothing.. Switched power cables and nothing... Tried attaching another psu but still dead. Is it possible that the motherboard is dead and that's stopping any power?

Motherboard is a Z77X-dh3.
Is there anything else I can check before I try to source a replacement ?

Check power lead from your motherboard to your power button. If it's okay, use a screwdriver to cover the two power pins where the cable sits - incase it's a faulty power button.

If it still fails to turn on you can use the paperclip test to check if the PSU is dead.

Try not to touch the paperclip when you switch the PSU on though :p

If the motherboard is dead, it could be stopping the 'turn on' signal from reaching the PSU, so if the paperclip works imo it's more likely to be a faulty motherboard.

Is there no signs of life? Does the power supply fan spin?

Nothing spins alt all. Normally there is a psu led glowing even when pc is off but that doesn't even show which is why I thought psu at first. Ive tried a different psu connected to the board and nothing on that too. Will try the power button but I was expecting the psu led to glow

Also disconnect any usb peripherals. I once had a totally dead computer because the cat had chewed halfway through a game controller lead.

Got everything disconnected apart from psu power n cup leads. Still fat zip. :( no lights or fan spin on either psu.

Looking like a mobo issue. Ugh now need to find a replacement board as I don't fancy replacing board and getting new cpu

Well decided to tinker and found that the psu must be knackered. Paperclip trick didn't work on psu but worked on a 650w psu so must be doing it right. But when I connect it to motherboard the 650w fails to spin. Is it possible that the mobo/case is shorting something?
