No PS3 Rumble??

Dave Karraker from SCEA recently responded to the mostly confirmed rumors of a rumbling Sixaxis controller by stating, basically, no such controller exists. He did confirm that better motion-sensing controllers were in the works, but downplayed it as more of a controller update than a new controller. He said that "[Sony] recently sent out to the development community some new prototypes that have a slightly enhanced sensitivity for the analog sticks and the motion sensing within the Sixaxis controller ... This is not a new controller, but is part of the normal development and evolution of controllers."

While this may seem disheartening, this may be a PR tactic utilizing semantics. Rumble, as far as controllers are concerned, involve rotating hammer weights, causing the controller to shake. That feature is not coming to the PS3. But Karraker might have been dancing around the word rumble, when the proper term is TouchSense technology. Know what we're saying? Of course, maybe we're wrong. But we like dancing, too, Sony!

I think they are lying. :)

I think the author is reading way too much into what the PR rep has said. No rumble means no rumble, I highly doubt he went into literal semantics and said rumble is out simply because that is not the technical terminology that it's referred to.

Because my hands vibrating certainly does feel like a 9mm shell going through my head!

Seriously though, if that was some how true. I think i could give it up for the extended battery life! I dont miss dual shock that much.

I thought all this rumble mumbo jumbo lawsuit thing had been sorted and they were releasing it sooner rather than later

Glad about the more enhanced sticks, that will definitely help on the FPS games!

didn't notice that, thats great news!

I really wish Sony would just make a firm announcement on this, we've got to assume its coming.

I have to agree, I much prefer the long battery life of the PS3 control compared to the 360's which is short due to rumble IMO.

Personally I think that one is in the works but they wont announce it because of the amount of non rumble controllers still on the shelves. Although, I certainly wouldnt bother getting a new controller for rumble but I would for better motion sensing and analogue sticks.

Your PS3 pads last longer than your Xbox360 pads?
I could swear my Xbox360 pads last longer, though I am probably guilty of leaving it download stuff/watching movies and not turning the pad off. Why Sony never put a 10 minute shut off on the pads I'll never know!

I get atleast 18 hours out of my Xbox360 pad even with vibration.

Extended battery life is no alternative for Rumble, after all, can you not charge your controller over night, I know you can turn the 360 off and STILL charge the pad, unfortunately this wasn't an option on the PS3 either.

I get way more than 18 hours from my PS3 pads and they charge in about two hours. The 360 took bloody ages to charge iirc and definately didnt last as long.

I always tunr the controller off when folding/downloading etc, so thats probably something to do with why you dont get as long.

I figured as much. Massive oversight to not have it turn off automatically though, or to be able to charge from the console after it's off. Should be able to change atleast the latter with firmware.

I get crazy amount of usage when compared to a 360 pad...I'd say a good 2x longer than my 360 pad if I'm honest :)

I haven't charged my pad for a good 9 days, and it's still showing 3 bars.. (that's including a good 12hrs on Splinter Cell: DA and various 3hr stints in the last 9 days)

I've never had the pad die on me, but I do turn it off when not in use e.g. watching movies.

Should be able to fix the auto shutdown with firmware too - I'm sure it's the console which sends the command to the controller to shut down, otherwise why have the option come up on screen?

I do agree that it's a definate oversight which needs fixing, but not a biggy imo. They should work on being able to access the XMB from in game first as thats the biggest fix I want to see.

My PS3 controllers last for 4 hours. My 360 controllers with rechargeable batteries last 16 hours.

I always keep the A to B USB wire on the PS3 controllers as a result, and even then, I have to call up Sony services in a year to replace the controllers when the lith-ion batteries finally go dead. All of my PS3 gripes are centered towards the cheap, tacky and poorly made unergonomic controllers. I'm not too impressed really but there you go.

Yeah, that goes without saying, I think that's the one thing everyone wants to see. I can only think it's proving problematic as after 10 months you'd have expected to see it. I wonder if it's something to do with the amount of memory required to run it in the BG anyway without bringing it into the FG as well.

Yea i think its coz ive been playing tony hawks project 8 recently which is very music based and not really to my taste!

Can you? I've just plugged my play'n'charge lead into the front USB sockets on the 360, and it doesn't charge??? be cool if you are right, it does annoy me on the PS3, but when my 360 seems to do the same, I just learn to accept such short sightedness by both parties!

If you have play and charge plugged in(whilst the 360 is on) then turn the 360 off it will continue to charge the controller, however it wont if you just plug it in whilst the machine is off, is that what you did wrong Demon?

If my 360 is off and I need a charge I just plug right into my PC usb sockets. :D

Turn it on then off again and the fans should stay on until the controller is charged, I think.

Oops too late. ;)
