I've actually always found traffic wardens to be quite helpful when you ask them about local restrictions etc.

They are probably just happy someone is talking to them.

Pretty much this. As much as it is very fashionable to hate on wardens because they are the guys who catch you out when you take a risk, it is not like they have deceived or tricked you into a fine. If parking is not free or not allowed, it is pretty audacious to get annoyed at the guy who is writing you the ticket because you have not managed to cheat the system.

I also park correctly to keep my car free from knobs who think keying a car is an appropriate response to poor or selfish parking.

Agree on Stratford Upon Avon. Can't drive around the centre without bumping into at least 2-3 of them...

Then again I mostly park up by the council buildings, so that might explain it.
