Hi, I have windows 8 on my laptop, i had windows 7 previously.

My problem is when i connect my media player to my laptop, the hdd usually starts in slave mode and shows up as a drive.

in widnows 7 i could always click safe to remove before i unplugged it, in windows 8 i do not have this option, even though i have it set to performance which should mean i would have to remove it safely before i unplug it.

i have read others also having this issue and i cannot find any way to fix it.

if i pluf a ust stick into my drive i do see an option to safely remove. the only difference i can see is the usb stick is fat32 and my etc drive is ntfs.

can anyone help, is this an issue that can be fixed?

it has, ^^

really sorry about the multiple posts above, i was at work and the page kept erroring, i thought they had all failed to post.

Click arrow in taskbar
Customise
Find 'Windows Explorer Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media'
Select 'Only show notifications' or 'Show icons or notifications'

Would this work?

the issue is that my drive is setup as performance, so it should always show the icon, but my drive doesnt seem to be listed as to safely remove, i dont know why.
