Hi guys looking for any quick answers here before i get on the phone to company about this want to make sure it isn't a simple setting i am missing. Daughter has a Acer Aspire 8930G-864G64Bn delivered yesterday and when i plug the dc lead in and try to boot the laptop it gets to the chose your account screen on vista i click her account and the screeen goes completely dead. If i boot from the battery everything is fine but if i get to desktop and then plug the dc lead in the screen will go off again within a few minutes. I have bugger all to do with laptops normally so i havn't got a clue about all the power stuff and suchlike so i am wondering if there is a setting that is causing this or if it is a bigger problem that i need to get the company to come and sort hence asking you nice people here :). Have booted into safe mode fine with the power lead connected but when i try to use normal accounts bang no screen still no closer to figuring this out.

Hmm I wonder if there is anything in your power settings.

I'm not sure if it's even possible to do this but IF when plugged in it was set to use an external monitor and not the laptop screen, that would explain why the screen does not display anything when it is plugged in (although I am not sure if the login screen of vista would be displayed on the external monitor or on the laptop screen).

On laptops there is usually a key combination to press to switch screens (FN + one of the numbers usually but I'm not sure which number it would be on an acer).

** Another thing to try would be to plug in an external monitor and see if it displays anything when the laptop is plugged in to the mains

Yeah for the acer laptops you press fn + f5 but that didn't do anything at all and all the settings are correct. I am waiting for them to call me back it is less then a week old so given it doesn't appear to be something simple to do on my end best bet is to send it back to them for repair. Thanks for the help i tried them as it was worth a go but i guess you just can't sort everything all the time :).
