No screen resize in Nvidia drivers?

I remember around the 180 series of drivers, there was a manual screen resize for individual monitors so you could set the vertical and horizontal screen position.

Is there a third party program like this available that can change the vertical and horizontal screen position?

I can't seem to resize my HDTV and the underscan/overscan function in the drivers don't seem to work. Furthermore my TV doesn't have any other functions bar 16:9, Zoom1, Zoom2, 4:3 and Panoramic to adjust the screen position.

I'm running from mini HDMI to HDMI. If I ran from DVI to VGA, I'm sure I could use the HDTV's settings to adjust the positioning as it would be running in PC mode, but I'd prefer to use HDMI due to the inbuilt audio.

Thanks.

Which driver and graphics card are you using? I'm using a Gtx570 on the 285.79's and the screen resize options are under the display tab, it allows full screen adjustment to reduce overscan etc, this is using DVI-DVI.

My 2nd PC (HTPC) is connected to my hdtv via hdmi-hdmi but I'm currently using an AMD card, I previously used an Nvidia card (dvi-hdmi) and was able to use all desktop size/position adjustments, my hdtv has quite significant overscan so I always compensate for this using the gpu driver resize options.

Seems strange that you don't have the required settings in your driver control panel, try reinstalling the latest Whql drivers to begin with and select the 'clean install' option.

Here is a quick screen grab of my driver control panel, showing the location of resize options.

I have all those settings and have the latest 290.36 driver.

No matter which settings I use with Resize the desktop enabled, I still get a few inches of screen not being shown on my HDTV.

Ah right, that's annoying.

There are third party apps that allow the use of custom screen resolutions, 'Powerstrip' is one i've used in the past, haven't used it in a long while though, but it's still available and should solve the problem for you.

I installed Powerstrip but it won't detect my HDTV unless I have it set to extend mode.

I wish to duplicate my desktop onto my HDTV to play movies and such, so I don't think it will be possible to use Powerstrip.

Any other suggestions? I really appreciate your help.

Overscan / "Just scan" mode turned on?

AKA 1:1 pixel mapping...

This ^

It should be a setting on your TV settings and not on your PC.

What TV is it? (if its a panasonic like i have i think the setting for overscan/just scan/1:1 pixel mapping is in the set up menu)

Well there's your problem. All my HDTVs had this problem, I had to change the pixel mapping on the TV settings to 1:1, and fiddle with the overscan settings on my laptop.

My HDTV is old and doesn't have 1:1 or any overscan/underscan settings.

Guess it maybe time to buy a new HDTV.

Your on the right track. I had to to do this with my Sony Bravia HDTV via HDMI

It took a fair while to find the correct setting TBH.

Good luck.
