Hi folks,
Im seeking a little guidance. My daughters pc which has ran fine for
ages seems to have developed a fault.

When I switch the computer on all I get is "no signal" from the monitor
No beep, nothing.

The computer sounds like its starting up, all the fans spin but the
monitor does not switch on.

I've tryed what I think is the obvious, plugged in another monitor,
tried another vga lead, swapped the graphics card, no difference,

Would I be right to suspect the cpu or motherboard and if so how
do I find test them.

Any pointers would be great
Thanks
Gary

If you've tested the monitor, card and cables then there isn't many other things it can be.

I'd suggest PSU but you say the fans spin so it can't be that. The only other thing it can be is,as you've diagnosed, the CPU or motherboard.Unfortunately there isn't a massive amount you can do to test them other than swapping out.

It can't be the Ram or drives because it'd still start to POST with these dead.

The good news is that a cpu/mobo combo doesn't cost a lot nowadays..easily under £100 :D although you may need to check your current ram is compatible if you do choose to go down the upgrade route.

Not really..although if pushed I'd say the CPU because it generates the most heat.Could be either or both.

Also whilst I think of it try swapping out PSUs if that's possible.Even though the fans spin up it could be the PSU is on it's way out.If that goes then it may well take out your CPu/Motherboard with it.In fact this may be your problem.I'd test this before spending any money.

I take it you've tried the main diagnostic tests - clear CMOS, disconnect everything that isn't essential etc?
