Hi all,

i came home and switched on my PC this evening ( as i usually do after work) to find i have no signal coming from my PC :( . and so have started going through the list of things i can check, so far have checked the DVI cable ...its fine. the monitor is fine too as i'm using my other old pc to write this post. next i need to check the graphic card.

but in the mean time as i dont have one spare can some experts help me if i explain the it more.

i have opened my case and checked that all the fans are going, they are. i have lights on my motherboard. and on my graphic card. i pressed the power on and all i get is no signal not even a bios or motherboard screen.

does anyone have any ideas :(

i have a EVGA GTX 295 graphic card ( its about a year old)
my mother board is an Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

it has to be either the graphic card or the mother board surely? else i would see somthing like cannot boot HDD.

thx in Advance

Paul :)

So you dont get the usuall single beep when you normally switch the PC on?... usually most mobo's beep once (single quick beep) as it starts the boot process.

Does it still give the single beep?... has it ever given the single beep?

no no beep at the start (i dont think it ever beeped on startup), i get no burning smell i have a be quite PSU it rock solid imo, i dont think its that.

This is how I would personally troubleshoot this:

1. Listen for mobo beeps. If it beeps more than a single beep, check mobo manual for beep codes and it usually tells you whats wrong.
If it doesn't beep at all, I would be inclined to think my mobo was dead.

2. If your MOBO has built in video I would clear the CMOS and try using the onboard video. If that works, I would say its your GFX card.

3. If in step one it beeps like mad and you dont have onboard video, I would remove the GFX card and switch the system back on... if it beeps the single normal beep,at this point, I would say its your GFX card.

4. If your mobo has never beeped in its life... well... i would be stumped. I would probably borrow a GFX card from somewhere/anywere and check it first though. Or perhaps switch on the PC see if it boots and you just cant see it, perhaps wait a few minutes and then try entering your password, see if you can get the annoying windows startup music. If you do... its the GFX card.

anyone else got any better ideas?

this is weird , i have just switched it one and it works fine, all i have done is gone to bed?
the only difference is that i now have a green light + a blue light on my 295 at the back of the case. before i was only getting a green light.

what does this mean?

think im going to do a bit of a dust clean on my PC this morning. maybe it was just dust? or maybe my graphics card has an intermittent fault.

Gpu loose in the slot maybe. Give it a slight push. If it happens again, look at the hdd led when you turn on your pc. If it looks like it's booting windows then it's likely your gpu.

NO i was wrong again it won't boot and again the card has no blue light at the back. think i should contacted EVGA now. i cleaned out the inside and have made sure the card is correctly in the slot which it was anyway. i think its just faulty.

im surprised a £400 + graphic card can fail just after a year. sign of the times. this will probably be the last EVGA card i ever get, i cant have shoddy hardware, i work in the Games industry and need my rock solid PC to be rock solid!

any other suggestions appreciated but it looks like the card to me.

many thx for your helpful suggestions everyone

Paul
