Got in last night and turned the sky on to be welcomed with the message, no sky signal is being received!!

This is the second time this has happened after the first chump didnt put the pin in the thing on the end (cant remember the name)

What chance do I stand to get them to come and realign it after the gale force winds yesterday without having to pay a call out charge as I really dont think it has been put up properly as no one else I speak to has moved.

if its just the possition can you not go out and point it back the same direction as everyone elses? (providing they havent all moved)

Mine was out during that heavy snow. Turn the plug on and off and wait for it to see if it works. I just needed to wait overnight and it came on.

Might be hard without any realignment equipment ;)

If you have reason to believe the job wasn't done correctly, just complain.

What he said. You should really use propper equipment but assuming it's just moved in one direction a bit it shouldn't be too hard to put it back to normal yourself.

It looks like its pointing in the same direction as my neighbours and its literally 6 inches away from theirs.

At least your window cleaner didn't break the bracket that was holding the lnb in place  funnily enough, they have never been round to collect the money for cleaning the windows. Need to pick up a proper clip thing, black electrical tape isn't a long term solution :D

I got the same "no signal" message this morning. Spent half an hour buggering about and then went outside to see the dish had snapped off the bracket whihch was very corroded. Dish pointing towards ground so it's Australian SKY for me.

Phoned Sky who wanted £65 call out, but managed to find a local guy who will replace the bracket and re-align the dish for £40. He had said that they had lots of calls today from people with dished moved by the stormy conditions last night.

Proper equipment! LOL

All you need is a compass and some knowledge :)
To get it spot on you do need a meter? How else are you going to get it spot on?

Properly aligned sky dish doesnt break up in rain or storms, expept for extremely bad storms!

Just say yor gonna cancel play the game and they'll come out FOC. There not gonna risk losing a £18 ++ customer a month for the sake of 50-60 quid now are they

I tried that one, said I was going to cancel and they said ok and put me through to the contract cancellations department. They took my details and my contract will terminate in one month...they called my bluff.....its as if they know I live in an area without cable and probably one of the worst signals, Its not a weak signal just lots of mountains that reflect and distort the signal, I can actually see the top of the transmitter in the distance over the top of a hill.

I will phone up next week and cancel my cancelation if you know what I mean, think it depends on your luck. I have heard of people over at digitalspy forums (and my step son who has his own flat) who have either got a call out or movie channels free for a couple of months just by saying they are going to cancel. Just your luck I suppose.

What about these kits:

Mine breaks up all the time during any sort of bad weather even light rain. So was thinking of one of these myself. Are they easy to use and do they work?

Ive got that exact kit, its available from ****** if you cant be bothered with ebay. Its a very basic meter in that it simply shows signal strength, but it does the job and makes alligning dish very easy indeed, ive used mine loads and loads of times for various installs on various satellites including my current house.

Now that im used to where all the satellites are i think my current install took all of about 5 mins with no reference points, its just in my garden on a spike as my house is covered by a covenant disallowing dish.

If its a sky+ try, services - 4 - o - 1 - select then 2 defualt transponder and red to reset settings and save them.

Only works with No signal number 29.

Buy a proper dish ;) Sky mini dishes arent really up to the job in heavy rain. You would be better off buying an 80cm dish and a new LNB.
Fixed dishes are easy enough to DIY even without a meter.Sky 28east is probably the strongest signal here in UK so it should be easy enough to do.
