Install the sound card drivers?

Find out the make / model of the motherboard and then go to the manufacturers website and download / install the latest drivers.

Or possibly try a Windows Update if you are really stuck. May find the drivers for you that way. I know with my soundcard on Win7 it download an updated C-Tech driver (I think it was C-Tech). But yeah, that might work also.

Cheers.

Googling for something like 'no sound windows 7' won't help you out at all.

First thing to check is device manager and see if the sound card is installed correctly. If it has an exclamation mark by it or it's listed under 'other devices' as something like a 'multimedia audio controller' then you need to get the correct driver.

If you are unsure of the manufacturer then you can download a tool called CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com which might be able to tell you the manufacturer and model of the motherboard. Last resort is opening up the case and searching for model numbers on the actual motherboard.

Once you have the model number you can download the drivers from the manufacturers site.

Yup as above, Windows 7 was intermittent when starting as to whether it would pick the on-board sound or not.

Simply installed the Realtek HD audio drivers and the problems went away immediately.

Go to Control Panel>Sound, if you use speakers it should look like this-
Highlight the speakers, choose Properties, Use This device- Enable.
