Just started up Dad's new PC (Well it's actually all my old athlon bits, but hey) and installed all the drivers but it's still not outputting any sound whatsoever. It's not the speakers or anything as I've tried a set of headphones which definitely work. Tried reinstalling drivers from the mobo site but nothing. Using the onboard Realtek audio at the moment and am downloading the drivers (I dunno why, just thought I'd get them again). Here is the spec:

DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B
Athlon XP M 2400+
1gb crucial 3200
Some sort of Western Digital 80gb HDD
Super Flower PSU 520w
GeForce3 Ti200

The spec doesn't really make a difference, as I've had this exact mix of components before with no problems whatsoever.

Anyone got any sort of idea what's up?

I would imagin you have done all the simple stuff like make sure the sound is turned up on your taskbar icon , Allso make sure that you have actualy plugged the speackers in to the right hole in the back .

Im forever plugging in to the wrong hole and then thinking " what the hell ? "

Allso worth a look to see that your OB sound is activated in your bios ...I think it would be by default ..but worth looking at .

Little tip ... make sure its turned down while plugging and unplugging ... you will get the fright of your life if it kicks in :D

Keep us posted

Yep done ALL that obvious stuff ;)

THE BIOS! Why didn't I think of that!?? I'l bRb once I've checked that.

Oh and thanks for the quick reply, once I saw it disappear off the first page I felt a sinking feeling :(

:( Nope it still not worky (Was already set to "Auto", the other option was "Disabled"). It all shows up in device manager too. really want this to work especially so seeing as it worked no problems for ages when I used to use it.

I don't think anything is wrong with it ... by the sounds of it ( forgive the pun :p ) you have somthing else to do to get the sound to flow .

I had a problem with sound on a sound card and it turned out to be the little metal conection inside the plug hole had droken off ... Its only a tiny bit of tin and easy to snap off ...Have a look inside that and see .

What are you playing to make the sound ... an mp3 file or somthing ?

Yep, just an MP3 (Actually it's Scuzi's voice "Hi I'm Scuzi") :D Windows doesn't want to play it's welcome or goodbye jingle either or come to think of it any of it's other composures in the "Sounds" bit of the control panel .

(Actually it's Scuzi's voice "Hi I'm Scuzi")

LOL no wonder it don't work ..your pc can't translate irish :D

Is that file an mp3 ?.. I i remember right it was on a quicktime player ..Maybe you don't have the right codec in your machine ... could be wrong .. i dunno ..

Try a normal MP3 in wmp or somthing

EDIT ... Ok i just looked at the scuzi file ..its a WAV file ... have a look on your sound function on your taskbar and make sure the WAV slider is not muted or turned down

Ah it's not an MP3, it's a wav, and as I said Windows doesn't want to sing either :( so it's not codecs. Sound irritates me. Sliders are all fine, eveything is up and not muted.

OK so we are down to the last resort ... have you tryed hitting it with a hammer ? :D

Ok i hate to do this but its one of them things that could be a load of diffret things wrong , Here is a fault finder that may help ... Other than that ... Have you not got an old sound card knocking about that you could try ?

As i said .. i hate to do this ..but give it a go

fault finder

Good luck and let me know how you get on . ;)
