No sound from headphones with x-fi

When i plug my headphones into the headpone socket on the back of my x-fi xtreme music, i get no sound through them. Ive tried messing with all the settings but nothing makes it work.
The sound through my speakers is fine no problems there, just the headphones.
Anyone else had this problem? any help would be great.

Edit: the option to mute speakers when headphones are detected doesnt do anything either, as sound still comes through the speakers.

I thought when you wanted to use headphones you have to unplug the speakers and plug the headphones in the same port? Or is it something new with the X-Fis?

When I plug my headphones in instead of the speakers I simply unplug the front speaker connection (green on my creative speakers) and plug in the headphones. I still have the other two connections for the 5.1 speakers plugged in. I then just turn the speakers off, and select heaphones for the setup.
