i have been trying to get sound from the onboard sockets, but nothing.

i can see that sound is being played using windows speaker test but nothing is coming out of the speakers.

I have re-installed Realtek drivers but still nothing.

using Windows7 64bit.

any help would be appreciated

also posted in 'Motherboard section' as not sure if this is just mobo related.

These are the motherboard jacks right? Not the front panel jacks?
Have you tested the green audio jack with another set of speakers? Ear phones will do.

yep, motherboard jacks.

tried speakers from my system and headphones.

device manager says that all is working fine :(

might sound bumb, but the sound is not muted in any way.
also is the default sound the onboard and not through the HDMI on your 4850?

supprising how many times that happens

sound is not muted anywhere, have checked Windows and Soundman/realtek software.

i have an 8400gs installed in the problem pc and there is no HD sound on that.

only Realtek audio shows up in windows.

have browsed the web and it does seem that a few other people are having the same problem but no answer to fix :(
