hi there - i've got a sony vaio laptop that i have never had sound working on as i bought it 2nd hand. When i tried to play something in winamp i would get a "bad direct sound driver" error message, however no windows sounds worked either. I checked device manager to see if all was working properly and saw no exclamations etc to indicate anything was wrong.
I have since done a clean install of xp professional sp2 and loaded the original Realtek HD audio drivers from the vaio website. Now when i play something in winamp i do not get an error, but still no sound and still no windows sounds. Device manager still states all is working fine though.
Any assistance on how to get the sound working would be much appreciated!
