I have a weird problem but cant get to the bottom of it.

My sound has been absolutely fine for years then about a week ago my son was complaining of no sound in PvZ Garden Warfare and having tried all sorts i just couldnt get it to work through my headset though previously worked fine.

With a bit of playing about in setting i did manage to get it to work through the monitor speakers.

It wasnt that much of an issue and just got the latest game for him as the last was well out of date.

But then today i bought the XBox game pass and the very first game i try, Bad North, i get the same deal, no sound. But again fine on every other game.

Ive checked the obvious, game being muted but no joy.

Under hardware, i currently have:

- High definition audio device
- NVIDIA virtual audio device
- Realtek high defintion audio

The latter is what my headset works with currently.

Is there a way to just get rid of the sound drivers and start from scratch, though if so, how do i know what driver to re-install?

Thanks

Might be Wintoys10 patching itself with more bugs or force installing buggy drivers.

You could try rolling back Realtek's driver in Device manager.
Here's how you can disable automatic driver updates.

Also to make sure Wintoys doesn't throw sound into wrong playback device try disabling other sound devices than Realtek.
(device getting sound signal when playing video/music should show in sound Playback device list)

Yeah if it's realtek has been a pita lately
With windows updates
If rolling back to previous driver like esat
Suggests doesn't work
Uninstall realtek from control panel add remove programs
Or use an uninstaller like revo, iobit etc
That let you scan for leftover files to remove
Then see if the bog standard windows driver works
If still no joy try the latest realtek driver from motherboard manufacturer Web site
