Hi,

I have recently set my Gran up with a new TV and freeview box recorder, and am having no end of problems with it!! I think for now we have dealt with the initial technical issues of using a different TV, but now have a problem that I can't figure out!

The set up is a Samsung LE26B350F1 LCD HD Ready Digital Television with a Samsung DVD-SH897M 320GB HDD/DVD Freeview Recorder/Digital Receiver.

I am playing all of the TV through the box so she only has to deal with one controller. All of the channels were working initially, however now BBC1 has no sound... The picture is fine, just no sound. As far as she is aware the other channels (both the picture and sound) are fine, it is just a problem with BBC1.

Any ideas what is causing this, or what I can do to put it right?

Thanks in advance!

Many Freeview channels carry an audio description stream along side the standard audio service. It could be that she might have accidentally selected this, as quite a few controllers have a button for switching to it.

Would that not make it mute on all of them rather than just one channel? If not, what would the button say/ be called to change it back?

Thanks.

I would have thought so however depending on the Freeview box it might do it per channel. The button might have an ambiguous name, such as audio. If not you can always check in the box settings as there should be a setting in there.

Reset to defaults and install the channels again? Bit of a pain in the ass but should fix it.Then either:

1. Cut off any irrelevant buttons from her remote so she can't fiddle.
2. Buy her a universal remote with only channel and volume buttons?
3. Give her the yellow pages for a tv repair guide or even the manual for the tv/freeview.
4. Put her in a home and let them deal with it.
