No sound Windows 8.1

Having a bit of an issue, and looking for your help.

I have no sound on my system below. Well, if i turn the volume all the way up I can just about hear it.

I've re-installed drivers, I've rolled back updates and done everything other than a full clean install that I could think of. I can't do just a windows refresh as I went through the upgrade store and you lose the ability to recover from an image.

What else can I do ?
 
Check the right device is selected, you mat have to do a fresh install as I seem to remember some other guy allowing a windows update and that screwing with his sound.
 
I suspected as much. Have to be all day event as you'd have to re-install W8 - Update - Install 8.1 - re-downlaod games - install and reactivate Apps. etc etc
 
Well as soon as Win8 is on you will know if the sound is fine, anything after that and it stops working points you to a software/update randomness issues.
