I've plugged in the HD audio cable, that goes from the front of the case, in the correct place but there is still no sound. Windows is saying I need to plug in the headphones but I have.

What motherboard and case are you using?

Did you have two ends on the cable, one with I think its HD Audio and can't remember the other one

Can you try with another set of headphones or speakers just to double check.

Just checked the manual and there s only one connection on the board.

Have you installed the drivers for the onboard sound, also daft as it may sound (no pun intended:p) the volume is not muted.

I've installed Realtek HD audio. Also when I plug my headphones into the back into the motherboard it registers and Realtek HD audio comes up. When I press the test button it plays a sound through my headphones, but that's all that comes through.

Is Realtek audio digital output set as your default playback device?

Right click on the volume icon and select playback devices.

Check which device is the default device and change if needed by right clicking and selecting set as default device.

see my previous post, I've edited it.

Ok I'll do that.

This is what I've got now
