NO space - help!

I have been running my operating system (Windows 7) on my 40gb SSD for a while now.

When i purchased it i knew i would have to manage it tightly as space is at a premium. However, i did not bank on Windows updates raping all my free space, i have switched off systemrestore to save space that way but updates have left me with nothing to play with.

How can i get rid of these to free up my space? I actually cant even look at images as it says there is not enough space left!

I dont want to format, would re-installing windows help or would it just then re-apply all the missing updates?

i have ran all the free up space tools with windows i now of, i have unistalled everything i dont need.

thanks in advance

I'm not at home now (work away) so will try all this when i get back

I have redirected everything to another drive, i've even started installing programmes onto other drive in an effort to save space

cheers for help

ok, back from working away and i have done as asked, this has got me about 800mb back of free space, so not quite the impact i was expecting.

If you are saying it should only use 25g, what is wrong? I have installed a load of programmes on my other drive, i have redirected all pics, vids, etc to my other drive. There should be no clutter, yet it still takes up the entirety of my drive!

As stated, i want my OS on my SSD for snapiness of use really, i dont game much.

Any other advice to help me? Would a re-install of windows help (rather than a re-format)?

if i got an updated version of windows 7 which had sp1 with it and did a re-install as opposed to a re-format would that shrink the amount of space being used do you think?

Have you actually read the thread?

Post a screenshot of the windirstat scan result.

40GB is tiny. 128GB M4 can be had for £90.

yeah, its my thread!

When i bought this SSD (it was nearly 2 years ago), i can assure you i could not get 128GB for that price. That is about what i paid for my 40GB if memory serves me right.

It may be cheap but is it any good?

system restore was turned off a while back, hibernation, etc, all system restore points have been binned, only thing i havent done is looked at enabling NTFS compression, will have a read up on the implications first.

looks like i may have to buy the M4 ;-)

thanks for all the help with this, much appreciated!
