No Suitable Drives Found! RocketRaid 622

I have just install 8 samsung HD204UI 2tb sata drives into an netstor 10 bay na770 ensloure attached to the rocketraid 622. The 622 sees all the hdds and detects the disks appropriately as 2tb drives.
When i try to create the array, i get error no suitable drives found.
Any ideas?

rtfm...needed to initialise disks first...for one horrible moment i thought the highly restrive 622 compatibility list might be relevant.
