Hi there, welcome to the OCUK forums :)

What will you be using the machine for mainly?

Also, will you be wanting a new operating system (ie Windows 7 64bit)?

How does this look for an upgrade?

The PSU should be fine for an i7 + 5850 system and the existing case should have plenty of room to accommodate the long graphics card.

you sure can spend money fast :P not bad if i want to spend it all! iv not had a ATI gfx card before, always stuck with nvidia ones, would it be a big change?

Do you reckon you will be interested in a new 24in Full HD widescreen monitor like the one I included in my spec, or would you rather stick with your 19"?

Once I know this, i'll be happy to spec up an AMD based system.

Also, do you mind switching to ATI graphics cards? The reason the ATI was chosen above is because the two new Nvidia cards are approximately £100 more than the 5850 and 5870 respectively, very hot, noisy power hungry and extremely tough to get hold of. They are slightly faster than the ATI they are "competing" against ie 5870 vs GTX 480, 5850 vs GTX 470, but the extra cost really skews the comparison.

Bottom line: If you want a good value gaming card now - get an ATI.

Hi thanks again,

i think just to save some cash i would stick with the 19, though it is tempting as i do use the pc for tv and movies, not used widescreen for gaming before though.

also just been looking at the viper and titan i7 specs,
could not see the reason for the £200 difference

As far as I can tell, the graphics card is different.

If you won't be needing the screen, how does the upgrade in post#5 look? It will end up costing £835 and provide a massive upgrade to your current system. (It seems that the bundle itself is no longer on offer, but you buy the parts separately for around the same price as shown above).

I'll go spec up an AMD build to compare. Are you happy to reuse your current case, PSU etc. or do you want to get new ones?

How confident are you with building your own computer? If your not at all then a pre-built one from ocuk would be the way to go. If you are then buy components like the ones cmndr andi suggested and overclock it yourself as there is more satisfaction ;)

was thinking it would be nice to just plug it in and go for a change, but if it saves enough cash i don't mind building it myself, and then i'll reuse what i can, unless the new ones have some features worth getting? smaller, quieter more efficient?

iv always built my own pc's just a bit put off as its been a while since i built the last one, stopped gaming lol so iv been managing to get by with this one, but iv been gaming again so would be nice to have something newer.

AMD option

leaves you a couple of hundred quid for some games to test your new baby out :)

for some reason the 965 bundle is cheaper than the 955 lol

How bout this for i7 920 build? This is assuming you are using exiting PSU, Optical Drive and case:

Can ditch the Window 7 if you don't need it yet, and use the money to get a 5870 instead of 5850. The hard-drive can be ditched if not needed.

P.S. I'm not sure if a 5870 will fit in your current case...you better have a check.
