So I took the advise of people and had a crack at Xubuntu. Installed it all okay and all was going well until....
I was trying to install a Java plugin for Firefox and entered the password incorrectly 3 times
. After the Package Manager told me I had entered the password incorrectly it left me with just the desktop and short cuts. No task bar, nothing. It remains the same now I have restarted too. The admin profile is okay but this user profile is now pretty much useless. Am I missing something here? Is this a security feature or did I manage to break Xubuntu after 2 minutes!?
The second annoying problem is that the wireless is flaky at best. Sometime it connects, sometimes not. It sees the network but acts like the password is wrong when it isn't. I'm using a Intel 2200BG wireless card so it's nothing exotic. I've see WICD recommended instead of the default network manager. Has anyone used this or come across this problem before?
I'll be looking for solutions on the web but thought some fountain of knowledge on here might know the solution straight away.
Thanks in advance.
