Anyone else having this problem with their 8800?

I have an Xpertvision 8800GT and I cannot monitor either fan speed or GPU core temperature. This is crazy when the cooler is enormous on this card, its begging to be overclocked but I'm not willing to do so if I can't monitor the temperature.

The only thing I can see is the fan is running at 100%. The noise doesn't bother me but if it could run quieter and still maintain a reasonable temperature it would obviously be preferable.

At the moment I see that some of the following cards are having the same problem:

Asus (luckily have released a tool)
Gigabyte
Palit

....and it seems all have a large cooler.

At the moment I'm one step away from exercising my right to return my card within the cooling off period, but I'd rather not.

Have you tried rivatuner? I do not have a double slot cooler on my 8800 but thats what I use. Sorry if this is a obvious question I just didn't see ya mention it.

Yeah, tried Riva, ntune, fanspeed, Xpertviews own tool, Palits tool, I even tried the NV bios editor just to see if I could see something in the BIOS that might give me a clue. The BIOS showed no temperature but showed the fan is running 100%

Hmm that is odd. I wouldn't think having a different fan(same they use on a GTS I would assume) would cause that. I'm by no means a vid card guru but you might check if a bios upgrade is available for the card. Im sure you are in the process of doing this but Id make a email to their tech support first on the list.

Yup!

An email has gone to Xpertvision and to Palit. No BIOS updates seem to be available after hours to searching :/

not heard of expert vision but i know for example on the ocuk version of x1950pro there was no temp sensor on the card soo fan speed was 1000% constanat and you couldnt see temps. i wonder if expertvision have donesomething simalar to keep cost down ?

If this is the case they must be doing the same on the Palit, Asus, and Gigabyte cards too!

I think I'll return it and buy something else.
