I'm having issues with my iPhone not synchronising my music this morning. It keeps failing and saying it can't find the disk (even though it shows in iTunes).

I also noticed yesterday I had an message pop up when I connected a Walkman: ''this device can work faster if you plug it into a usb 2.0 hub"

So looking on the iTunes help it says make sure that you are using USB 2.0 so I'm wondering if the Win7 update has screwed with my USB ports?

Looking in Device Manager I see "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" - that's USB 2.0 isn't it?

Another thing, looking in Windows Update History, two updates failed the other day (27th). I ran these at the same time as the Windows Service Pack, so I just assumed that SP1 had just picked them up so they weren't needed. The two that failed are: KB2387530 and KB76422. It's not picking them up if I look for new available updates.

Any help would be appreciated...

Intersting, I thought the autoselect was established to select and install those 2 updates prior to it automatically selecting the sp1.

Did you add sp1, and fail to install the other two first?

No, I selected all three at the same time and updated. The two that failed were quite old I think, hence I thought SP1 probably had them covered.

There was an issue with SP1 not handling usb2 drivers properly, looks like you have the same thing. Can't get you a link since I'm on my iPod but google win 7 sp1 USB and you should find the fix on the first result.

Why not just post the fix? :p

Just uninstall all USB controllers in device manager then reboot.

All should be fine after that as Windows will pull in the correct drivers from the driverstore.

So I do! OP, try uninstalling your USB controllers in the device manager and reboot. :p

So the (easy) fix (as well as some replies here) says delete USB controllers in Device Manager.

How exactly do I do that?

And which entries do I delete?

Just right click Uninstall them one by one. You'll have to use a PS/2 mouse and/or keyboard while doing this I guess.

So I've not done this:

Because of this:

(I'm scared noob and worried I'll mess up somehow?!)

And am holding out for a MS fix... Is that likley? I can't see any reference to this issue on MS website?

:o

This is interesting. I had a similar issue with losing all usb 2 capability suddenly soon after I installed SP1. I rebooted and it came back. I've never had this issue before on the laptop.

Had me real stumped for a while especially as I had a group of people turn up at my desk who wanted to check something out on a usb stick. I eventually had to send them packing.
