I turned on my computer and my mouse/keyboard did not work. I then found out no USB device work either. I have searched the internet but nothing seems to help:( I have tried unistalling/reinstalling drivers, scanning for viruses etc.

Luckily unattended Teamviewer access is setup so I am able to remotely control my computer with a tablet :D

My computer was totally fine yesterday until I moved it all into a new case and apart from the USB issue, it's all good. My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z77X-D3H.

thank you in advance.

A few things to try,

• ClearCMOS
• BIOS update? (although if it was working before then you shouldn't need to)
• The drivers are all installed and you are using the same USB ports as before?

Check that the board isn't shorting on the new case.

For example, the springy bits on the motherboard i/o shield can sometimes poke into the usb port and short the board to the case, ballsing up the usbs on that hub etc. (this happened to me with an msi i/o shield).

Are we talking about the rear IO USB ports or the USB HEADERS ?

I had this happen to me on my old LGA 775 Abit AW9D Max.
The rear IO USB failed for no reason what so ever.
The HEADERS worked perfectly.
As a quick fix I bought a rear pannel USB hub which connected to the USB HEADERS.

*No competitor links please*

I never did figure out what went wrong or how to fix it.

Probebly what you dont want to hear is I ended up buying a new board.
It was around six years old, this is when I decided to move to LGA 1155 and get all new...

Sorry cant be much of a help but the quick fix may come in usefull ??

Thank you all for your replies.

The USB problem affects both USB 2.0 and 3.0. It also affects the rear ports on the motherboard and the header.

I have cleared CMOS, but I cannot get into BIOs. The keyboard used to be usable at that stage but in the past hour or so it cannot be used there :( Which could link to a motherboard problem? I just checked my IO shield, but I don't see any thing that may cause a problem with it :(

After a little more digging in Windows through teamviewer, Windows reports that the USB controller driver is not installed, but it can't update it itself. I have installed 3.0 ones from Gigabyte but they don't seem to help :(

I just cleared CMOS again and loaded the defaults on the motherboard. A keyboard from the front USB (not back) works and I can get into the BIOs however when it boots into Windows it does not work.

I will have a closer look at the case and take it out now.

Thanks.

Fixed it:D

It was not a issue with the motherboard installation, as I did not touch it. I cleared CMOS again and magically my mouse was working so I could quickly get reinstalling :D Now Windows is completely reinstalled I can now use the USB ports like normal.

Thank you for your help.
