So my brother has this HP Pavilion Slimline s3514.uk Desktop PC ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=uk&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3760530 ) and after a power cut there is no VGA signal to the monitor. Tried it with one of my monitors but still no go. It seems to boot up and the CPU fan spins and all sounds normal. Switched RAM around and tested stick by stick.. hooked up the HDD to my computer and i can see everything on there so it isnt the drive failed. I dont see anything on the screen from booting up so i thought maybe the on-board graphics had gone on it and went ahead and picked up a low profile Asus 5450. Well that didnt fix it either :(

So guys and gals.. any ideas whats going on here? Should we get a new board for it? Its a 775 socket with an E2180 and 2x 1GB DDR2 Samsung RAM.

He only uses the computer for the internet and Youtube. No gaming at all so a quick fix would be great at as lower cost as possible.

Cheers :)

either the PSU have had it thanks to the power cut or the board has been damaged thanks to the power cut

things to try

1.
reset the bios by taking out the battery from the mobo, count to 31 and put it back in

2.
try a different PSU if possible and see if that works

thats about all you can do really, if non of the above works, then its the board, you may need a new one... lga775 boards can be picked up really cheap nowadays

Hi Cinderz.. i think the board is probably gone as the CPU fan spins and the HDD seems to be running too. Tried BIOS reset and took out the battery so it looks like a new computer from OCuK. Seen one for £125 so my bro can throw in his HDD and Optical drive and should be good to go ( I say its about time he needs something faster than an E2180 ;) ) I looked for another board but they seem too expensive for what they are at £35+ & p+p. I will build a mini comp from his old one with maybe an 1155 board.. will give me something to do as a project :)

Btw does anyone know if the E2180's overclock well? I remember the 2120's did if i remember right.

Thanks for the reply :)
