Ive just gone to take my graphics card out of my PC and was planning on putting the VGA lead into my motherboard but to my suprise there is no VGA slot :S

Even my 5 odd year old motherboard has a VGA slot yet this brand new Asus p5k motherboard has no input for a VGA cable.

Am i being stupid here or what? Confused as hell?

Thanks

It just means your motherboard doesn't have integrated graphics. Mine certainly doesn't and a lot of other higher end boards don't either.

They tend to be for low cost motherboards for office and home systems that are just going to be low cost internet browsers.

OIC, never realised just assumed all new mobos came with VGA inputs. hmmm

Nope, usually only mATX boards that have them also.

Curious, why were you taking the card out and trying to use integrated graphics?

Onboard graphics is just a budget and pcworld type thing nowdays I think, Im not sure why because it was usefull as a backup system. Maybe it interferes with overclocking or quad stability

Modern onboard generally sucks now anyway because they delibrately hobble it. Back in the days of the legendary Abit NFS, etc you could get Geforce 4 onboard and it played even half life 2 and css good enough to top the score board.
Try that now with onboard and bf2, no chance

The last onboard I had was dx9c and everything, I ran it through 3dmark06 and it got 161!

161 integrated ati200 gfx pent805 3dmark06.3dr
