Hey all,

Got a problem;

Turned my computer on this morning and nothing would display on the screen, the monitor seemed to be stuck on stand-by. I re-checked everything was plugged in properly, did a restart and still nothing. I've also noticed that both the keyboard and mouse are not lighting up. I've tried booting it up with no USB devices plugged in and again, nothing. I've checked both the keyboard and mouse on another computer and they both work fine.

Computer Specs:
Q6600 with Tuniq Tower
Asus P5k Deluxe
2gb Ballistix
BFG 8800GTX OC2
WD 500gb HDD
Samsung 2253BW - bout 4 weeks old
XP SP3

I've tried both D-Sub and DVI cables from my gfx card to the monitor and still nothing. I know it's kinda far fetched but my cat went behind my computer whilst it was on, it couldn't of short circuited it surely?

Really frustrating when it was working fine yesterday!, only thing getting in its way was a really long boot up - system tray taking ages to load up, desktop icons taking ages to appear, and as far as I know, its clean of both adware and malware.

Any help is much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi,

Nah not using a wireless card, just the built in ethernet on the mobo. My old computer used to do the same thing (Dell XPS 600) with a dell monitor and it would take about 20 mins to boot up.

I still think it may be something to do with the USB cos both my keboard (Saitek Eclipse) and mouse (Intelli 3.0) both used flash when my PC boots up.

Im going to take it apart anyways and check everything's fine inside. Will report back later.

Right just opened up and checked everything was connected fine, a slightly loose SATA cable on the HDD but that's it.

Took out the gfx card and reseated that. Checked the RAM was secure which it was. Again still nothing. I'm gonna leave it on for about 20 mins to see if anything happens, if not then I've no idea.

Surely some of you must know? :(

I've just noticed that the speaker is connected to the mobo as well (Akasa Eclipse) but there is no POST beep, what does this indicate?

Just replaced battery and booted up, still nothing yet but gonna leave it for about 30 mins to see if anything happens.

Got some good news;

I've swapped the RAM around, it was in A1 and B1, i've changed this to only 1 stick in A2. And used a USB>PS2 adapter for my monitor. Booted up, greeted with one short POST beep and keyboard and mouse were both working. Had to change date in the BIOS etc but touch wood all seems fine at the moment.

EDIT: added the 2nd stick of ram in B2 and again, posted with one short beep and booted up fine.
EDIT2: removed the ps2 adapter for the monitor and again, posted with one short beep and booted up fine.
