Bit of a strange one. Every time I power up my system I get no video, but hard drive activity suggests that the machine is booting into windows. If I then power off and back on, I then get video as expected.

Any ideas?

Spec: Asus P5Q, E6600, 8GB OCZ Gold ed., 8800 GTS. Not overclocked.

what memory do you have, is the voltage set for its expected limits, voltages on auto or manually set in bios ?

Identical spec to mine, other than I have a 4850 and Q6600 [missed that part when I posted]. Good taste there sir ;)

Double check all connections, reseat the GPU if you haven't already, and check the boot section of the BIOS - there's a section for FIRST VIDEO ADAPTER or somesuch - think you have the option of PCI/PEG vs PEG/PCI [page 3-27 of the manual]. I can't remember what my one is set to, but I imagine is should be PEG [PCI-Express Graphics?] as opposed to PCI.

Other than that, clear your CMOS and retry, just to make sure the BIOS wasn't woofly out of the box, arf.

Oh, and make sure you have the DVI connector [presumably] into DVI socket 0 or 1 on the card. It's been ages since I have seen it, but some early DVI cards I played with didn't like being in the other socket on boot and would just sit there going "what, you want me to output through the secondary DVI socket when the primary is empty? Sod off!"

Worth a look...

I think my one is
