Hi there me again!

Got my 1st build completed now. Thought all was well but apparently not. All fans etc word, fan on cpu, gpu, sound card, psu all working. However there is no display, tried both the inputs for my graphics card but its not working, there is DEFINATELY power to it as the fan is running. Another thing i've noticed is the lights on my RAM arent on, but the RAM is fitted correctly in my mind, could either of these be causing it? As its display i'd think its the gfx card but i dont see whats wrong or why its happening.

Any help much appreciated

PSU - Hiper 580
GFX - 6800GT XFX
RAM - Corsair XML Pro 3200 - 2gb
Soundcard - X-Fi Fatality FPS
CPU - Athlon 64 3500+
Mobo - ASUS a8n-sli deluxe
Case - Antec 900

Basically the only new components are the case, psu and soundcard.

But obviously was a complete rebuild due to moving cases.

Is it possible gfx wudnt display if the RAM wasnt in right? But surely nothing *** run if it wasnt in and anyway its not exactly hard to put in!

And as for Gfx its defo connected and its definately compatible. Any ideas?

The monitor basically sits in standby mode if that helps.

Thanks again

Right, a few things to try:

1.) Reset the CMOS (Will be described in your motherboard manual)
2.) Reseat the RAM and GPU
3.) Do you have the extra 4-pin plug as well as the 24-pin plug connected to the motherboard?
4.) Reseat CPU
5.) Any POST beeps or error codes etc?
6.) Try booting without the sound card.

1 - havent tried yet but how does this help?

2) Reseated the RAM, all 4 of them, one doesnt seem to 'click' into place but is locked in by the clip. I didnt reseat the GFX as surely this is connected correctly if the fan is running?

3) Yup both connected

4) This was never disconnected since or before its move, i just cleaned the fan and heatsink without taking it off the mobo.

5) No beeps whatsoever, thats why i was confused, i thought if it was RAM it does the signature beeps.

6) Will do if no other solution arises but dont see how it helps if this seems to be working okay

Thanks

just played with the RAM, removed half of it incase there was some sort of problem with it, however no changes :(

ok i think im aware of the problem now, the sli warning light was coming on so i decided to switch pci express slots. Now when i turn on the comp theres no errors. However i cant actually connect my cables to the ports in the back of the gfx card, the case comes over it and kinda blocks it (VERY annoyin)

I've tried brute force but this fails, is it ok to remove the top part of the casing thing of the cable ( i mean the end bit with the ports either side and hand-tightening screws. Please get back asap!

well i solved the sli warning light problem but still no picture. I thought the problem could be the fact my card was in the black slot and not the blue slot, even though the black slot is labelled for single card use and i used this slot previously. Im still clueless as to the problem :( except that my monitor wont kick in!

I basically couldnt get the monitor cable connected to the port in the other pci-express slot. the case basically does an L shape after this slot and i cant fit the connecter to the port because of it.

this is really starting to annoy me :(

still no beeps or noticable errors, gonna attempt the CMOS now. Thanks for all ** help mate, it really is appreciated

hi there sorry slight break due to the rugby and me being a fanatic, least i forgot about the horrible pc trouble at home :(

Reset the CMOS, same result, tried without soundcard, same result

Anything else? :(

Just to be sure the power connecter from PSU to mobo has to parts, the small part IS meant to go just beside it on the remaining pins yes? I noticed an ATX12V slot at the top of my mobo, is this just for older PSU's or am i making a hurrendous error?

Thanks all

Ahh, there's your problem! When I said do you have both power connectors plugged in I meant the 20 pin to make a 24 pin plug and the separate 4 pin one (The ATX12V connector) Your PSU will have a big 20 pin plug, a smaller 4 pin one which clips together onto the 24 pin and a separate 4 pin connector with 2 yellow and 2 black wires which plugs into the ATX12V socket. Just ensure you don't clip the wrong one to the 20 pin one, plug the other 4 pin in and you should be away :)

heh how crap am i!

Well it at least gets output on the monitor now!

The new problem is that i dont think its recognisign the hardrive. The sata cable definately goes from HDD to mobo. The comp itself boots very slowly and when it lists devices such as SEC Master blah blah it says system failure please insert system disk.

Should anything else apart from the sata cable go from HDD?

woohoo nevermind, realised i was being an idiot and fixed it up and its working! Seems VERY slow though which i dont understand quite. And clearly im gonna need a lot of y-splitters for case fans etc.

But finally a successful build it would seem!

1st time lucky! ....well maybe like 90th
