No VPNs working?

I have been using free zenmate for ages now and never had an issues. Now i get this:

This site can’t be reached

xxxxxx.com unexpectedly closed the connection.

This is for a lot, not all, sites including Google etc.

I uninstalled zenmate and have tried several other VPNs and find they are all doing the same - which leads me to believe the issue is at my end

I am running W10
ISP is BT
Tried with Firewall off
Network diagnostics does not find any faults.

As soon as the VPNs are turned off, i can access sites.

Any ideas?!

Do you have a real public IP or are you on a BT tier that uses CGNAT?

Now that i don't know. I have been with BT for several years and have been using Zenmate for a couple of years without issues.

Then Bam! No VPNs working for me

Good shout - just checked other laptops in house and it's working fine.

Any internet security software loaded?

Yes - ESET, but i have tried with it switched off and still no joy.

I have tried using Windscribe VPN - when i use the Chrome extension, no connection. But when i run from the desktop, then open chrome and browse, the VPN works.

Try uninstalling ESET.
