My Laptop from Dell Outlet has no Windows certificate of Authority. Dell tell me that I don't need one, that it is a genuine copy and that I won't need the product key even if I do a clean install or upgrade to windows 7.

I assume that I should take advantage of Dell's free upgrade to Windows® 7 Home Premium (64 bit)? Indeed should I wait for that before configuring my new system - I assume you recommend a clean install?

Thanks, thats what I thought. I have now registered for the upgrade programme.

Should I believe Dell regarding the CoA? Is there some way of getting the product key out of windows Vista HP?

I would want to know that I have the key somewhere anyway.

Just do a quick google search... "find vista product key"

Should give you loads of information :)

Hi, Your COA will be under the battery on Dell laptops.

Aye Robin, thgat caught me out when my mum got her laptop.

Dell have done something very sensible (put the CoA where it'll still be readable in a year*), but don't seem to know about it themselves/have it noted anywhere on the documentation.

*The normal position of them seems inteded to maximise how fast they can get worn off.
