I need to install windows 7 on my SSD but i dont have the windows disk... I do have my key.. i tried to create a recovery disk but it was only 142mb and didnt give me the option to reinstall windows... have i just got to download it from a torrent site or something?? :S

Fantastic :) thank you very much, im getting an ok download speed should be done in 1-1/2 hours... And if i stick this on my SSD and restart into setup.. change to ACHI Mode and boot from SSD it will run me through the windows installation?

You need to burn the iso to DVD or its possible to use a USB pendrive if it's big enough and you format it properly.

You set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive first (or USB depending), you can do that whilst switching the sata mode to ACHI.

Are you doing the reinstall purely to get it to boot in ACHI mode? There is a workaround you know rather than a complete reinstall ;)

The only reason i was thinking id need to use ACHI is because earlier i changed it to try and get windows to recognize my SSD (i realised i needed to format it in device managment since then) And in ACHI my ATA 500gb with windows installed wasnt booting.. it just kept restarting, i changed it back to IDE and it then booted, I thought if i installed windows on the SSD i would have to use ACHI instead of IDE.. Its pretty alien to me 2bh :P

Yes, you want the OS installed to the SSD (not the HDD) so it gets the benefit of the speed from the SSD.

Burn the iso to disk. Disconnect the HDD and install the OS to the SSD in ACHI mode. Once windows is installed you can plug the HDD back in.

May I ask why should he disconnect HDD? I read something about this while back just not sure what the reason was.

if you only have the ssd connected you cant mistake the mechanical hdd and install to that
bottom line if you only have one drive connected you dont format your pron hdd by mistake ;)
