Guys,

I no long have any Windows sounds. All the Startup and Shutdown sounds no longer play and I have no error sounds etc.

I can no longer get the 'sound devices' icon in my system tray and my Volume wheel and mute buttons don't work on my keyboard.

i've tried reinstalling the sound drivers but gained no success!!

I can still hear my music when I play it, but programs like MSN Messenger no longer play their message or notification sounds

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

greg

i've had this happen a few times to me. i fixed it by start>run>services.msc and making sure "windows audio" service was started. for some reason it turned itself off a few times - i've no idea why.

The services is runnning, and i can't play the sounds from the sounds menu. the 'play buttons' are greyed out! :(

sorry if this doesn't help :S
