No Wireless Internet Connection

I have purchased and installed a Netgear Wireless USB adapter on a friends laptop so that she can connect to the internet. The problem is that the laptop can connect to the wireless network via the router without any problem but will not connect to the internet. Other computers on the same network connect to the internet without a problem but not this laptop. The web browser error message is "Cannot Find Sever" !

The laptop is second hand and I was wondering if it needed re-configuring for internet access and, if so, how ?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thankyou.

Check the laptops IP settings/properties (right click the connection/adaptor). Make sure its set to 'Obtain Automatically'.

Also, any Firewall software? Could be blocking.

Thankyou for the post hp7909.

The laptop IP settings are set to "Obtain Automatically" but still the problem persists. The laptop wireless connection is saying that it is connected to the network but I cannot ping the router from the laptop or the laptop from another computer on the network

I'm having exactly the same problem.

It is odd as the laptop worked fine in our old flat where I was using a DG834G modem + Nildram BB.

In our new flat we are using Be BB with the bundled speedtouch modem.

Should I just dump the speedtouch and use my oldd DG834G? Would this possibly solve the problem?

I'd check Firewall & or Anti-virus software settings.

Its a USB adapter, hope you followed the software installation instructions properly? Have Asus one & if you connect it before installing the software it doesn't work properly.
