Hi,
I have a Linksys wag160n, it is quite a few years old now and we usually use wired connection however the cable is broken and needs replacing. In the meantime I wanted to use wireless but went to connect and it does not show up in the list of networks.
The wireless light on the router is not lit, it used to work fine. I've tried taking the power cable out and waiting ila bit and powering it up again but still doesn't work.
Is it possible like I read online that the wireless portion of the router is dead as it is so old?
Thanks
EDIT: Bit of an update after more diagnosing
I am not sure if the wire is the issue. The router and laptop setup is at my parents business so I had limited things to test it with, no spare cables etc.
I think the wireless function of the router is dead, unless it can be disabled? Nobody has done this though and I don't think it can/would disable itself
We have 2 cables coming from the router, one to the laptop and one to a CCTV DVR. They are both run through walls and floors so makes it a bit hard to test things
I connected the laptop with the cable it is normally used with (bear in mind this was working perfectly fine on Monday evening) and it says 'limited connectivity' and keeps saying 'an ethernet cable has been unplugged'
Tried it with a wire that I know is working (the one going to the DVR) and I get the same message. Try to 'repair' the connection but get a message saying an IP address could not be assigned or something along those lines. See below:

Same message, keeps saying a cable has been unplugged and limited connectivity. Nobody is moving the cable though
The DVR cable has a connection half way through it upstairs, I am connecting the laptop to that point at the connection, so it is CABLE--------Coupler------Cable and I have taken it out at the coupler so it is just router to laptop, and that message above is what I get.
Connect it back into the coupler though and the DVR works fine
So I was trying to work out if the issue was the router or laptop.
Brought the laptop home, wired it to the home network, didn't change any settings and it works perfectly, no error messages and full connectivity.
Does anyone know why it would not be working at the business? Bearing in mind that it was working monday evening and nobody changed any settings. All I done Monday was install a new monitor and connected the laptop to it and then installed the software that came with the monitor, that isn't the issue though as otherwise it would not be working fine on the home network. No router settings or laptop network settings have been changed since it what working fine. Possible issue with the router but it just happens that when I was viewing the DVR (using my mobile phone internet) it didn't 'disconnect'? I don't understand what the issue might be. Either that or some setting not allowing an IP address to be assigned? But I highly doubt this option as nobody has touched the settings and it was working fine Monday evening. I'm guessing dead/dying router? Just confused as to why the DVR seems to be working fine
Basic summary:
Router wireless is dead (Not the main issue, not necessary, just want wired working. But if this can be fixed by a setting or something I would be interested. Think it is dead though)
Laptop doesn't work with either cable
However one of those cables definitely works as the DVR has a network connection using that cable
Hope you can help!
