No wireless networks in range

Simply put

I have this

Rangemax™ Next Wireless N Router, Gigabit Edition - WNR854T

and this

HP Compaq Mini 311c-1010SA Intel Atom N270 ION 11.6" Netbook

Won't pickup the router thats 1 metre away from it, but finds about 10 others miles away.

What DOIDO?

I can't because my brother knows the password and he's asleep.

Shouldn't it display "Unnamed Network" though?

I don't think it will, I know my lounge PC simply won't detect our Router (and neither will my brothers Kindle) if it isn't set to broadcast the SSID, unless the PC/Kindle have already been told the SSID and the other settings (and been added to the routers "allowed" MAC list).

Basically I suspect it depends on the software running, and if it's actively looking for network activity, or just the SSID.

It worked, broadcasted it, connected to it, hid it again and it's fine. Thankyou.
