last night after visiting a friend, i went to the local petrol station to buy a milkshake for my upset stomach thinking the milk would calm it, as i was walking out of the station, i stepped on the steep grass verge at the edge of the station to walk down it to the foot path below. Not realising it was wet, and more concerned with my stomach pain, In one single fluid motion my feet flew from under me, laptop flying in one direction, thick shake in other, and landed squarely on the back of my head, knocking myself out. I came too some moments later, looking up at a beautiful summer sky, wondering why i was on the ground... i raised my head a little to notice that i was covered from head to foot in thick shake and then realised i must have slipped...
A trip to A & E and a concussion later and we move on to the next day...
today I got up, ate some breakfast, and dropped to the floor in agony. my little annoyance of a stomach problem had become rather more debilitating than I had envisaged and after dosing myself up with 18.5mg of dihydracodein I was finally able to move around with mild pain as opposed to absurd agony. so, having recently been struck off my doctors list for moving a full quarter of a mile further than i was before, i phoned the nearest GP i could find to make an appointment, at this point the pain killers were wearing off after just 2 hours and i was nearly in tears only to be told
reception: " we cant give you an appointment unless your registered"
me: "well can i come register and see the doctor? its quite urgent"
reception: "you can register but it will take two weeks to process you and we cant give you an appointment till then"
so, off to the walk in centre i go... an hour and a half later i am seen by a doctor, she has a fumble about. checks my pee, asks a few questions and diagnoses gastritis, an acute over production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and tells me it can last for weeks,
and her recommendation... Gaviscon. The very stuff ive been guzzling like water for the last 3 days with absolutely all effect.
So, to summarise,
I landed on the back of my head and neck, from 6 feet, and my treatment was?
No ex rays, no scans, given a paracetamol and sent home. (My spine is killing me, it feels like all the weight of my back is pressured onto my T4 vertebrae and all the muscles along the left of my neck are, well, painful and a bit weird.)
The stomach problem, possibly the worst pain ive suffered, more so than the head impact yesterday, i am diagnosed an over the counter product that i have been using for days, which is what i told her. she recommended a more regular dosage than the label implied.
just what in the name of Jesus Christ am i paying N.I. for ?
