in the arse of england.
last night after visiting a friend, i went to the local petrol station to buy a milkshake for my upset stomach thinking the milk would calm it, as i was walking out of the station, i stepped on the steep grass verge at the edge of the station to walk down it to the foot path below. Not realising it was wet, and more concerned with my stomach pain, In one single fluid motion my feet flew from under me, laptop flying in one direction, thick shake in other, and landed squarely on the back of my head, knocking myself out. I came too some moments later, looking up at a beautiful summer sky, wondering why i was on the ground... i raised my head a little to notice that i was covered from head to foot in thick shake and then realised i must have slipped...

A trip to A & E and a concussion later and we move on to the next day...

today I got up, ate some breakfast, and dropped to the floor in agony. my little annoyance of a stomach problem had become rather more debilitating than I had envisaged and after dosing myself up with 18.5mg of dihydracodein I was finally able to move around with mild pain as opposed to absurd agony. so, having recently been struck off my doctors list for moving a full quarter of a mile further than i was before, i phoned the nearest GP i could find to make an appointment, at this point the pain killers were wearing off after just 2 hours and i was nearly in tears only to be told

reception: " we cant give you an appointment unless your registered"
me: "well can i come register and see the doctor? its quite urgent"
reception: "you can register but it will take two weeks to process you and we cant give you an appointment till then"

so, off to the walk in centre i go... an hour and a half later i am seen by a doctor, she has a fumble about. checks my pee, asks a few questions and diagnoses gastritis, an acute over production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and tells me it can last for weeks,

and her recommendation... Gaviscon. The very stuff ive been guzzling like water for the last 3 days with absolutely all effect.

So, to summarise,

I landed on the back of my head and neck, from 6 feet, and my treatment was?

No ex rays, no scans, given a paracetamol and sent home. (My spine is killing me, it feels like all the weight of my back is pressured onto my T4 vertebrae and all the muscles along the left of my neck are, well, painful and a bit weird.)

The stomach problem, possibly the worst pain ive suffered, more so than the head impact yesterday, i am diagnosed an over the counter product that i have been using for days, which is what i told her. she recommended a more regular dosage than the label implied.

just what in the name of Jesus Christ am i paying N.I. for ?

If you are in agony and not getting seen to, I would have gone to A&E and said you were throwing up blood earlier or something.

I hate hospitals now. In fact, I get panic attacks whenever I set foot inside one.

Dude, ive had this. It kills! Basically get a hot water bottle, but it on your belly and lie still. It may be impossible to do so but after a few minutes you should feel no pain, but if you move it instantly all comes back.

mate thought hed broke his leg. ater a few hours in A and E and some x rays they told him that it was just the muscles and it would be fine after some rest, sent him home with some ibuprofen. the next night his leg collapsed in half and compound fractured as he was casually walking about the house...

"oh your leg must have been fractured yesterday and someone didnt pick up on it"

/sigh

I also share the hatred of hospitals. My bro cut his hand and it needed stitching so i took him to Blackburn A&E at 11pm. Just my luck the motorway was closed so had to go the long way. The sat nav took us to the old hospital and ended up driving round Blackburn for half an hour trying to find the new one.

Finally got there and we were directed to this minor injuries department which was basically a garden shed. He finally got seen to at 8am the next day , had to drive back home after being awake for over 24 hours.

If your stomach pain is to one side and quite low I'd suggest going back.

I had horrible pain in my lower left stomach for a few days, went to the doctors twice, walk-in center once, all said go home it's nothing, third time the doctor sends me to A&E and they tell me my apendix is about to explode.

So aye, get it checked out again.

Sympathies for the OP, get better soon

On a similar note, I can see why medical threads are banned and I think this one is verging on that. The amount of incorrect info on this page is quite frightening, won't bore you with details, just don't believe everything you read on the internet!

Absolutely. You dont know if the person posting is some 13yr old reading off google, or an experienced doctor with several postgraduate medical qualifications..... ;)

I had gastritis a few months ago, the w/end before my finals exams....bad timing!! But I sympathise as its horrible pain. I was 5 minutes into watching Ironman at the pics and had to leave because I was in agony!

Ended up going to a&e, numerous blood tests, chest xrays etc. and I was given a few paracetamol and told to go home....woop! It improved thankfully over the next couple of days. Hot water bottle does the world of good!
