I have 3x 120mm 2000rpm Noctua's in the front of my Corsair 540 but am having trouble getting them quiet.

I tried an Akasa pwm splitter but only one fan would quiet down, the other would run at 100%.

I also tried the Phanteks PWM fan hub, but this also runs my fans at high speed even on the lowest setting.
My mobo is the ASUS x99 Pro.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Are they the 3/4 pin version of the fans? (e.g. are they PWM or not)

I had a similar problem on my Rampage V, turned out you need to go into the BIOS & set the fan header as a PWM header in the Fan Control section of the BIOS (they were set to use DC voltage control by default)

The new noctua fans didn't like my lamp tron fan controller either. I had to feed it a lot of volts to get it moving. To keep them spinning I had to keep it at least above 60ish % any lower it would stop. Having 1500~ Rpm as its lowest setting for me was an issue noise wise. Shame though because they are good performing fans.

Yeah they're the 4 pin versions.
I've already set them to pwm control. Even with one attached to the Phanteks hub, at minimum speed it runs at 1700rpm :o

@DivinePain ah that sucks, maybe I need to try the normal 1500rpm version.

That's quite strange, I can get the 2000rpm versions to throttle down to 600ish rpm when I've got the fans connected to the CPU_FAN header on the board (1200rpm off one of the CHA_FAN headers)

I presume the fans work normally connected straight to the board?

Which Phantek hub are you using as the one that came with my Enthoo Pro only had 3 pins (no PWM control)

Yeah if I connect just one to the board then it works fine.

It's this one:

hi I have the 140mm 3000rpm ones I use one of the aqua controllers. they can get them down to 900rpm which is near silent to me

I've got a couple fo the Phanteks hubs to use some good old none PWM fans. They are a good way to control 3-pin fans.

You should have no problems with the Gelid. I've used half a dozen or more.

You can run 7 to 12 PWM fan on one PWM signal before it is too weak to trigger the fans' PCB. There are a few fans out there that don't use normal PWM and only 2-4 of them will max the signal.

Sure is nice having case fans that idle down all by themselves and we don't have a rush of fear when the temperature alarm goes off because we forgot to turn the fan speed up before we started gaming. :D
