hi what air cooler will be better cooling my future 3900x build, noctua d15 or be quiet dark rock pro 4, case is a fractal design meshify c (non windowed)

Noctua would be fine, depends how tall they are and whether they would clear your ram, both are roughly the same cooling wise

The dh15s has more ram clearance, both noctuas will fit in the case, not sure on the dark rock though, never used one

D15 highest performing then DR4 and D15S are similar

The D15's will be easier to install as the DR4 is well known to be slightly more difficult especially in a system already built

DR4 will be quietest even with two fans

D15S will have the best compatibility with RAM clearance etc

Let us know which one you go for and what you think of it

D15S is not just about RAM, its about your Mobos's top 16xPCI-E Slot (the native/CPU slot one on most Mobos if you only have one 16x native/CPU slot with rest Electrical only)

This is very true, its more offset for compatabilty

I'm still frustrated that they released the Chromax D15 but not the D15S, also there is iteration of the D15\S in development with more heat pipes and surface area

And, not sure how widespread this is but if you have a high end Ryzen 3000 CPU some people seem to be struggling with large air coolers something to do with "The way they heat up" apparently, people are seeing better results with 280+ AIO which AMD also recommends for the 3950X

If they claim to match their 140mm cooler with their new 120mm cooler I would like those improvements put into a new 140mm Black cooler so a D16/16S Chromax or such.

If your saying you seen this mentioned somewhere please link to it. :)

I'm not sure I can link to Overclock.net because there is all sorts of adverts etc on the page but there are threads on that forum, Reddit and AMD website

I have the same dilemma of which cooler to go for. With the no tuna apparently being slightly better but withe the dark rock pro 4 being cheaper and better looking. Either would be fine.

i have the dark rock pro 4 and still deciding on sending it back as i have not used it yet, was thinking of the NH-d15 chromax pure black but not to sure as its a good £40 more than the dark rock pro 4. is there a lot of difference in temp cooling between them ? and sound levels

going onto a gigabyte master and 3900x in a h510i case

The bequiet will be quieter and the D-15 will perform slightly better but its more money

Depends on what you value the most, silence and £40 or 2\3C lower temps

When faced with the choice for cooling my 8700 I chose the Dark Rock Pro because of clearance issues.

Used a Dark Rock Pro for a few years, extremley good cooler. Highly recommended. Don't think you could go wrong with eitehr cooler really.
