Hey guys, Ive just got my new i7 920 and a Noctua NH-U12P SE1366, which comes with thermal compound. Im a bit confused about where to put the thermal compound in the installation guide it says press a small drop onto the centre of the heat spreader <-- whats the heat spreader :S

your help is appreciated

The heatspreader is the top surface of the cpu.:), if your cooler comes with paste preapplied you wont need any on the cpu.

The outward facing surface of the cpu which makes contact with the heatsink.

For example.

In the pics ajones32 posted above it shows how to apply thermal paste, for a quad core just use a fine line as in the pic and your good to go:)

That metal plate is the heat spreader, don't remove it. If you applying paste you do not need much at all. The less - the better :)
