So I was thinking of getting this CPU cooler and was wondering if anyone had changed the stock fans? I was thinking about using 2 Scythe Ultra Kaze 2000RPM 120mm fans as replacements - anyone else done this and if so did it make much of a difference? Might help to overclock that little bit more. Cheers.

why replace when that cooler comes with 2 of the best fans out there? ok, I know a lot of people don't like the colour scheme (not keen myself) but they are still amongst the best available, and getting 2 of them with the HSF is partly why that costs so much. Tbh if you want to spec alternate fans then I would look at a different HSF like the Thermalright 120 ultra or a TRUE if you can find one. Save a bit on that and there's a good start towards buying your preferred fans. :)

Yep. The Noctua heatsink is OK, but the TRUE's are regarded as being better.

Escpecially if you're not going to use the Noctua fans, then there isn't any reason buying the noctua over the TRUE.

But to answer your question, yes, you will get better cooling with higher RPM fans. But they will be more noisy than the Noctua's. To be honest those Noctua's do a good job of cooling at silent temps.

I have this cooler and although i'm not an enormous fan of the colour scheme (silly Australians), the cooler is performing incredibly well imo. I have my 920 clocked to 3.8GHz and under full load the temps don't quite get to 70. If you can stick the uglyness of the fans then go for this cooler.

i have that setup in place on the OCUK testing bench at work

it works well
but is a bit noisy

overclocked the cpu to 4ghz on it

but it gets too hot after an hour of prime - the cooler just cant take it

not ideal though
