running x64 win8 with Start8.

with version 5 of nod32 a lot of the times the desktop would hang from a fresh boot.
since version 6 arrived a few days ago that desktop problem was fixed but i am now getting random slowdowns, task manager shows normal cpu load but the desktop is almost unusable.

uninstalled nod32, spybot s&d and enabled defender again to confirm it is nod32.

anyone else had these problems?

Probably not going to help your question but , any reason why your not using the built in one ?

Gman, i think eset are quicker to pick up on the latest attacks than MS.

If that is true, and I doubt it, it will hardly make a difference in reality. I know some prefer to not trust MS, or write off their code etc, but reality is, the software is very good and I prefer an anti-virus solution that is an integral part of the OS than anything a third party can offer. I think it's madness anyone would choose to disable Win8 AV or firewall and use something else especially if they have to pay for it.

It's not easy to catch any virus. Last time one of my machines had an infection was actually in the workplace where someone had made a mistake, the network became infected and as the company was one of the first to get hit by it the AV software installed on each machine couldn't detect/remove it.
At home you simply just be aware what to look out for and you've won most of the battle against virus/malware. Some have never used any AV (pre built in defender) and never had an infected machine.

I don't know what to suggest to fix your problem, but I'm using ESET Smart Security and Windows 8 is running fine.

Have you upgraded to 6.0.314.0? It was released the other week.

the update from last week was the one causing me slowdowns.

so far with defender no slowdowns, i will see how the day goes and reinstall nod32 tomorrow and see what happens.

Avast 8 works great on Win8 x64 Pro,very light on resources and not had a single issue :) .

Odd, the check update says 6.0.308.0 is up to date. 1% cpu usage, 0% disk usage. 1.1GB memory usage for the whole OS session.

Then that is weak. An update system through their app that doesn't update to whats available. Unless you reinstall....
